About the Study of the Georgian Labour Market

Labour markets are a rich source of information about country’s economy, development level, and the nature of the society. As of June 2018, there are several key resources for observers of the Georgian labour market. These are: employment and wage statistics of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) and the Labour Market Information System of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. Caucasus Barometer – a public opinion survey carried out by the Caucasus Research Resources Center (CRRC) is also an interesting resource.

That said, labour market is a living organism which cannot be fully understood through the lenses of a few statistics published on annual basis. The aim of our study is to create another resource for monitoring and analysing the market and to make it widely available. Our analyses are based on the data generously available on the well-known job search web-sites and enable us to track the market behaviour on an almost daily basis.

Clearly, these data sources have their pros and cons and have to be well understood and taken into account. We will discuss methodological aspects in more detail in the dedicated posts/section. Despite certain limitations, these new data, made available through new technologies, is a significant alternative resource. We hope that e-labour will enrich our knowledge of the state and development of the labour market in Georgia. It will become a helpful resource for the employers, HR specialists, job-seekers, employment agencies, professional or other educational institutions, and media. It can also help to demystify and, in some cases, provide evidence, for the widely spread views and beliefs about the employment opportunities in Georgia.

We plan to renew the data and monitor and analyse the tendencies on a regular basis. In addition to our key findings and conclusions, we will provide you with the detailed information on data quality and our approach to data processing, so that the readers are able to interpret the results accurately.
